Instead of dreaming Going Up, start Growing Up!

”When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:11

It is a wonderful to know that we are saved by grace through faith and that we are heaven bound. However, we must realize that the Lord Jesus didn’t die on the Cross just to bring us to heaven. God wants to have mature sons and a perfect Bride. Hence, we are called to maturity, unto perfection to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. We have a mission to fulfill on planet earth and not just dream of going to heaven.

Paul was exasperated with the Corinthians who remained babes and carnal and were only able to receive milk and not able to partake of the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 3:1-4). They were still dependent on personalities to whom they put their loyalties more than Christ, hence causing strife and division within the body of Christ. The writer of Hebrews was frustrated with those who “ought to be teachers” but instead, they still needed to be taught the elementary principles (Hebrews 5:12-13). Spiritual maturity doesn’t come by the number of years one goes to church sitting on the pew “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7).

Spiritual maturity comes by life application of the truth (Hebrews 5:14): being a doer of the word and not just a hearer (James 1:22); being submitted to the will of the Lord (John 5:19); allowing oneself to be led by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14); and learning obedience through suffering (Hebrews 5:8). Mature disciples of Christ press on for the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-15).

Children are dependent on being fed milk whereas mature spiritual sons of God partake of solid meat that gives them strength to assume and fulfill their responsibility in the kingdom of God. It is high time that we grow in the spirit and manifest the life of Christ. Creation is eagerly waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God for it to be set free from bondage. The Greek word for child is “teknon” whereas “huios” is for a son. The latter connotes one who is mature, an adult, of full age.

Although there are times we need help, may it not be a constant thing wherein we are always receiving and not giving. Instead of being a burden, let us help by being a burden bearer.
